Spend two weeks at Howard University learning how to use the power of multimedia journalism to cover health and wellness in underserved communities. You will learn how to write news stories, capture audio, shoot and edit video, take photos and incorporate social media. You will also develop an understanding of interrelated social issues — such as housing and hunger — that contribute to making communities unhealthy. The program is open to high school students in ninth through 12th grades and 2025 graduates who will be entering their first year in college in the Fall. Your work will appear on Voices of Tomorrow and distributed by the award-winning Howard University News Service.

You will need:

  1. a recommendation letter from a teacher who is knowledgeable of your skills,
  2. a 250-word essay on what interests you most about the health in your family or community
  3. two work samples that showcase the best of your journalism work and;
  4. a copy of your high school transcript. An unofficial copy is okay.
